Community Night

IO Moth CaterpillarEveryone is invited to Friday night’s FREE Introduction to Mothing at the National Butterfly Center!  This opening activity at our special, 3-day Mega Moth event is designed to make mothing more interesting and accessible to children and adults in our community because it is something that can easily be enjoyed at home without special tools or knowledge!

In addition to night-flying moths, participants will get to hunt for caterpillars, scorpions and other night-crawlers that glow in the dark!

Those who join our guided night hike may encounter tarantulas, orb weavers, owls and pauraques, as well as nocturnal mammals in this rare opportunity to explore the Center way after hours…

This evening will include lessons and best practices for documenting and identifying your findings; basic gear for enhanced nighttime experiences of insects; and how to ensure your outdoor activities are safe, rich and low-to-no impact on the natural world around you.

No registration is required for this speaker’s presentation, guided night hike, and hands-on Mega Mothing activity at the National Butterfly Center, so SAVE THE DATE and SPREAD THE WORD.

We look forward to sharing ‘the dark side’ of lepidoptera with you!
